The evolution of a book

This is NOT a cover reveal

book cover for The Lost Queen, a Fae Queendom Prequel Novella

? My cover designer is THIIIIIIS close to getting me a new Book 1 cover, but in the meantime, I wanted to start promoting my stuff because I’m excited!

So a friend and fellow RH author gave me this cover to use temporarily while I wait. ?

I like it! It conveys the overall tone and style of the book, even though Gloriana actually has black hair! ?

The Prequel Novella Meets Book 1

So, a while ago, I wrote an 11-chapter prequel novella that I thought took place before the events of Book 1. I even had my early readers in Traci’s Reader Team read it separately, after they read Book 1.

But when my fellow writers and critique partners read it, they convinced me that the “prequel” would make Book 1 even stronger if those chapters just… became the first few chapters of Book 1! Several of my readers also suggested the same!

Sounds easy enough, right? ?

Nope! ❌ I deleted more than three scenes from the prequel and Book 1 in the process of combining them. This is all part of the revision process a book goes through before publication! That’s why having a great reader team who freely share their insightful feedback is so important!

More on that in a minute…

? Needless to say, it took me over a week of tinkering to combine them. And now Book 1 is way longer, at over 100,000 words. The other books are all in the 60-90,000 range, though I expect my revisions to bring them all closer to 80,000 upon release. ?

So if you see me promoting the “prequel novella,” you can smile because you’re in on the secret. ?
